CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

SINGLE ADULT SHELTER SUBSTITUTE STAFF

COTS is currently recruiting for dynamic, organized individuals who are committed to our mission and are available to work on an on-call, part-time basis as substitute staff in our emergency Single Adult Shelters, helping to cover gaps in schedules and staff vacations.  The shelter hours are nightly 6 PM to 8 AM.

The primary responsibilities of Shelter Staff are to assure the safety and well being of persons and property in the Shelter; to support shelter residents in their search for permanent housing; to sign in and orient residents to shelter life; and to enforce the applicable rules and policies.  Shelter Staff maintain a safe and supportive environment while building trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness.

Qualified candidates will have the willingness and flexibility to work overnight and weekend shifts. The ability to work independently and as well as part of a committed team is necessary.  Strong communication, sense of fairness and human dignity, crisis management skills, and a commitment to the COTS mission are a must. Experience working in homeless direct service preferred.

FAMILY SHELTER ON-CALL PER DIEM STAFF

In order to provide staffing for our family shelters "24/7" COTS relies on a pool of on-call per diem staff. These individuals have the flexibility and availability to fill in last minute as needed in our family shelters. On-Call Per Diem Staff members’ primary responsibilities are to assure the safety and well being of persons and property in the Family Shelter; to support shelter residents in their search for permanent housing; to sign in and orient residents to shelter life; and to enforce the applicable rules and policies.

On-call Per-Diem Staff must be available for a minimum of 1 week of coverage per month.  When on-call the Per-Diem staff will be available weekdays from 5 pm through 8 am and on weekends, Friday 5pm through Monday 8am.

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, one to three years relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience from which needed skills have been acquired and a commitment to the COTS mission.
