We are seeking individuals interested in working with our Family Shelters, the Main Street Family Shelter and the Firehouse Family Shelter. Our emergency shelter programs provide opportunities for families without housing to have a safe, secure place to stay and have their basic needs met. The family shelters are congregate living settings, meaning each family has their own assigned room, with shared common spaces such as living space, kitchens, bathrooms, and playrooms. We can house approximately 15 families between our two facilities and have COTS staff available for support 24/7.

COTS is currently recruiting for reliable, community minded individuals who are committed to our mission and are available to work on an on-call, per diem basis as substitute team member in our Family Shelters, helping to cover gaps in schedules and vacations.  This position offers flexibility in scheduling, ideal for someone looking for very part time or limited work with ability to accept or decline shifts based on your availability.

  • Build trusting relationships with guests and ensure COTS is a welcoming, safe environment for all guests.

  • Assist in orienting residents to shelter life.
  • Maintain the day-to-day upkeep of the shelters including light house chores.
  • Proactively identify potential conflict and support COTS team members in de-escalating situations as needed.
  • Support/encourage guests who wish to participate in community engagement activities, outside of and within COTS.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of HS degree or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of related experience required; a combination of coursework and experience will also be considered.
  • Prior experience working directly with families and/or children is a plus.
  • Ability to work with individuals with mental health, medical, substance abuse and employment issues required.
  • Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis intervention is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local resources and services for individuals and families is a plus.

All positions at COTS require a commitment to our mission: Advocating for long-term solutions to end homelessness and provide emergency shelter, services, and long-term housing for individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or are marginally housed.

Per diem positions are scheduled as needed and do not have a guaranteed schedule or hours commitment.  Therefore, these positions do not qualify for benefits through COTS.  Per diem shelter support roles are paid $19.00/hour.
